Central's Players Off-Season

By Ella Watson

It’s no secret how hard the boys at the Central District Football Club train throughout the season.
And on top of their training most of the players, coaches and support staff work full time or study an Apprenticeship or at University.
So, what do the boys get up to in the off season, when all that hard work and training has stopped?
For many of the boy’s work continues; Luke Barmby, Mark Rumbelow, Nick Gillard and Kyle Jenner are all teachers and therefore still at school for one more week.
There were still exams for those at University or Tafe and full time jobs to be done.
Thankfully It’s not all hard work though some of the boys did manage to get away for a holiday or two.
Many of the interstate recruits have been home to visit family and friends, our 2017 Best and Fairest winner Chris Jansen has been flying all over the Eastern states attending multiple weddings in Sydney, Canberra and the Gold Coast.
Josh Waldhuter celebrated a very special day using the off season as the perfect time to marry his partner Amy, they have been holidaying in Kuala Lumpur for their honeymoon.
There was a trip to Bali for Jarrod Schiller and Justin Hoskin and Tom Collier escaped the country for a holiday in Vietnam.
During the season, Captain Trent Goodrem and his partner Carly welcomed their first child a little baby boy named Nate Lawes Goodrem and only a couple of months later fellow team mate Matt Prior and his partner Chelsea were proud to announce the arrival of their first child a beautiful baby girl named Maggie Alida Prior.
Both Trent and Matt who are smitten with their first-born babies have been revelling in the time they have been able to spend at home with their new families.
Our resident ‘Ranter’ Luke Habel Is currently away on holidays after finishing his final year of University in November, Luke is now a fully qualified Teacher.
Luke is also part owner in a horse named Flaming Aces with past players James and Chris Gowans, Scott Dutschke, Jay Nash, Jackson O’Brien and his father Scott, Jarrod Traynor, Tim Meulendyks and Current player Tom Collier the horse has been doing very well racing in NSW and Queensland.
While there have been a few holidays so far none of the boys have been caught slacking off or taking it too easy.
Whether it was at home or at the club or even while they were away on holiday all of the boys have kept up their weights and running (maybe some a little more than others) in preparation for pre-season.
To keep their fitness up some of the boys have opted to play other sports over the summer many chose cricket while Travis Schiller has been playing competitive tennis, another sport he is very good at.
Pre-season is now under way and the boys have begun returning from their holidays, new recruits are arriving and the excitement is building again for next season.
The Club welcomes new recruit John Butcher enlisted from the Port Adelaide Football Club as a handy addition to the forward line.
Pre-season will break again shortly for two weeks over Christmas before the real blood, sweat and tears of training begins in the new year.
For anyone wanting a chance to catch up with the boys you can join them for their final training session of the year on Thursday the 15th of December.
There will be a free sausage sizzle and plenty of Club merchandise on sale, it is also a great time to renew or become a member for season 2017.
The team will be available for photos and autographs from 7pm.
