Centrals have a 6th Magarey Medallist

Central District's Bradley Symes took out the SANFL's most coveted individual award last night, winning the 2012 Magarey Medal. He tied on 18 votes to share the medal with South Adelaide's Joel Cross.

Bulldog James Boyd polled the most votes in the award (26) but was ineligible to win the fairest and most brilliant honour due to being suspended for striking in Round 22 against Sturt. Boyd, 23, is a prolific vote getter and was runner up to the 2011 Magarey Medal, and has many years ahead in which he can collect the medal.

Symes has had a very consistent season amassing 30+ possessions on many occasions and could have also polled many more votes if not for AFL duties (two games for the Crows this season plus travelling interstate as an emergency on occasions as well).

In his acceptance speech Brad thanked many people including wife Danielle and Mum and Dad, but made a special mention of the Central District Football Club saying "Although at times you can be up and down in regards to playing AFL I couldn't have asked for a better Club to go back to. I have been at the Doggies for 10 years or so now and the people are just fantastic right down from admin to the playing group. I have a lot of mates there and I need to share this with them". He also made special mention of Boyd and how they work so well together.

Symes is a local product, hailing from Gawler, and made his league debut in 2004.

He joins other Bulldog Magarey Medallists in Gary Window (1965), John Duckworth (1979), John Platten (1984), Gilbert McAdam (1989) and current skipper Paul Thomas (2004).

It was a big night for the Dogs with Justin Hardy accepting the Ken Farmer Medal (for the League's leading goalkicker) while youngster Paul Marschall won this year's Powerade Star Search Award (won by Bulldog Jarrod Schiller last season) for the League's up and coming best young talent.
