Change to SANFL Club Boundaries

On Monday 3rd October, the SANFL Commission agreed to changes of the SANFL Club boundaries.  All Clubs submitted their recommendation in November 2016.

BACKGROUND -

In July 2016, the SA Football Commission resolved to constitute a SANFL Boundaries Commission ("Boundaries Commission") to conduct a review of the SANFL Club zones.

The principle aim of the review was to achieve an equitable realignment of the SANFL Club zones.

The last change to the SANFL Boundaries occurred in 2014.  That was necessitated by the reallocation of the Port Adelaide Magpies FC zone between the remaining eight SANFL CLubs.

Historically, a review of the boundaries has been undertaken every five years to coincide with the release of the updated population census information, provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The establishment of the Boundaries Commission is consistent with that regular review in realignment with the timeline of the census.

In addition to census data, this is the first occasion in which the Boundaries Commission has also been able to utilise FootyWeb data (online football registration system) with some reliability.  That, along with the SANFL Spatial Database, provided vital information regarding football participation across all SANFL Club zones.

Central District
Gains:
* The south west boundary of the Central District zone was extended to include Salisbury Downs up to Kings Road and a section of Burton up to Port Wakefield Road. This area was previously zoned to Woodville West Torrens.
* Golden Grove, including Golden Grove Football Club, an area previously allocated to Norwood was re-zoned to Central District.
* The north eastern boundary of the zone was extended to include Mount Crawford, Flaxman Valley, Eden Valley, Taunton, Keyneton and Sedan, areas zoned to Sturt. Truro, currently zoned to West Adelaide, was also proposed for allocation to Central District.
Losses:
* The area including Brahma Lodge and part of Salisbury East, bounded by Park Terrace, Smith Road, Bridge Road, Clayson Road, Frost Road, and Cross Keys Road was re-zoned to North Adelaide
