Club Mourns a Legend

 

The Club mourns the passing of one of its greats in NORM RUSSELL, OAM.
Norm, seen by many as the Club Patriarch, passed away on Thursday evening, 11th April 2013 at the age of 85.
Norm, a Foundation Member of the Club, played a huge role in the Club’s formulation in its infant years, and held many positions in the Club throughout a massive involvement.
1959 – 1960 Recruiting
1961 – 1963 Recruiting, Committee of Management
1964 – 1967 Chairman of Selectors – Committee of Management
1968 – 1969 Committee of Management
1970 Committee of Management – Chairman of Selectors
1971 – 1974 Executive Committee – Chairman of Selectors
1975 Vice Presidents Group
1976 President
1977 President (From 24/10/77)
1978 – 1982 President / Chairman
1985 – 1998 Patron
He was the Club’s inaugural Life Member, being awarded this honor in 1969.
Norm was also heavily involved representing the Club at SANFL level, being our proxy delegate from 1963 to 1976, and the delegate from 1977 – 1982.
He was awarded SANFL Life Membership and in 1985 received a huge honor in being awarded an ORDER OF AUSTRALIA MEDAL, for his contribution to Australian Rules Football and the Community.
To Pat, Ken, Sue, Anne, Jane and the extended family, the Club extends its deepest sympathy.
A great Bulldog man gone, but not forgotten.
