Eudunda Boy plays 50 games

By Peter Argent
Son of 1981 Eudunda Roosters Barossa and Light premiership player Stephen Prior, 25-year-old Eudunda lad Matt Prior played his milestone 50th SANFL game for the Central District Football Club last Sunday, against North Adelaide at Prospect Oval.
“It was satisfying to get to 50 the SANFL , I was quite chuffed
“For me I'd like to try and play and many games as I can and improve my footy “I have had a reasonably consistent year, although I know I need to work on my skills.
He follows a good line of players from the Eudunda district who have donned the tri-coloured Bulldogs jumper in combat over the journey
Graeme “Churchy’ Schultz passed the 100 SANFL game mark - playing for both the Panthers and then Central District.
He was a member of the Bulldogs first senior premiership in 1971, a reserves crown, before deciding he had move opportunities with South, as Barry Norsworthy and Robin Mulholland were entrenched as number one and two rovers in the league team.
He returned to the Ponderosa and played 21 games in the 1979 campaign, where Central District collected its first minor premiership, and played another 12 senior games in 1980, before going back to the country hand having a storied rural career.
Another Defender Paul Geister played in both the 2000 and 2001 flags with the Bulldogs, in a 142 game senior career that encompassed the 1992 and 1993 seasons under Alan Stewart and from 1997 until 2002.
He had four years on AFL lists, three with North Melbourne and one with the Power in its inaugural season, 1997 for four senior games.
Geister, who played at full back is forever etched in Central District folklore as one of the 21 players who delivered that cherished first league flag.
The Westhoff Family is also from Eudunda. With Leigh, Justin and Matthew's parents Danny and Robyn being acomplished sportspeople for Eudunda before moving to Tanunda when the Roosters decided to switch from the Barossa, Light and Gawler competition to the North Eastern Football League.
Matthew Prior started at Eudunda as a junior, played his underage SANFL football at Woodville West Torrens, before joining his brother ‘AJ’ at Tanunda in the BLG.
They would play in a couple of flags together at the Magpies, in 2009 and 2010, before Matthew was invited down to the Ponderosa.
He also was a part of the 2012 Central District reserves flag, under Jeff Brown when we beat Norwood in the Grand Final by six points.
He spent a season in the Central District reserves in ‘11 before making his league debut in round two of the 2012 campaign, against Norwood at the Playford Alive Oval.
Away from football, Matt Prior works a Cooper at 'The Keg Factory 'in Tanunda, a job he has had since for the past eight years.
Matt's younger brother Andrew ‘AJ’ Prior is the current Captain Southern Saints (Eudunda/Robertstown) Football Club who now play in the North Eastern Football League.
