Letter from the President

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Firstly  I would like to stress what an honor and privilege it is to be given the opportunity to be the President of this wonderful Football Club.
My passion for the Central District Football Club dates back to my early child hood,  living in Salisbury Park going to watch the doggies every week with my dad come rain hail or shine. I got my first duffle coat when I was 10 and John 19 Duckworth went straight on the back soon to be replaced with Peter Jonas and later Michael Wright before duffle coats went out of fashion.
I have suffered through the lows and enjoyed the highs in recent years like all doggies fans,  and I am passionate about making sure going forward that we all get to enjoy a lot more highs than lows.
I have a supportive wife Kerry and two young children Brandon & Gracyn.
I am the managing director of Black & White Trucks, a local taxi truck and furniture removal business and I have been a sponsor of the Club since 1992. I also had a 23 year association with my other passion American football & the Port Adelaide Spartans Gridiron Club. I spent 18 years as a player at local, state & national level representing Australia in a World Cup. I Coached at both junior and senior level as well as serving as President and League Delegate for over 10 years. I joined the CDFC Marketing Committee in 2010 and was elected to the Board in 2011.
Tough economic times are upon us. The business community is struggling, people are losing their jobs and families are finding it tough to meet the cost of every day living. For a community based Football Club like ours, this makes life difficult. We rely on the support of our Business Partners with their sponsorship dollars. We rely on the support of our members and supporters coming to our home games & using the Club facilities for entertainment.
When Tough economic times are here the disposable income that people use for sponsorship or entertainment is the first thing to be reigned in. We certainly understand the rationale behind that as we are all forced to head down the same path.
What I would ask is that all members and supporters get to as many home games as they possibly can and if you do make the decision to go out for dinner consider Grand Central Bistro.
With the Club's normal income streams feeling the pinch due to the tough economic times, more than ever we are relying on the success of our car lottery  to help fill a gap. I know that everybody is feeling the pinch,  but please, if every member could find a way to sell 2 books each it would go a long way to bringing in some much needed income.
Our on field performance has seen us jump back in to the top 5 after 5 solid wins, following a disappointing start to the season with an 0-4 start. It has been great to see the positive response from our  playing  group and coaches over the last month. Yesterdays impressive win against North Adelaide has put us back in the race for a top three spot.
Let's hope the on field form continues and with your help the off field picture improves for the remainder of 2013.
Obviously the biggest topic in football at the moment is AFL Reserves. We have only began to scratch the surface with discussions on this issue. The media frenzy surrounding this issue may lead you to believe that votes have been cast and decisions have been made but nothing is further from the truth. There is a lot of water to go under the bridge before any decisions are made.
There are risks to the long term viability of our competition and our Club whichever way the eventual vote goes. The Bboard of the CDFC, like all Clubs, will do our due diligence to evaluate those risks for and against before making a final decision. At this point our position has not changed contrary to rumour and innuendo on various forums.
